Every therapist has their own unique way of working.
My therapeutic style is predominantly informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy because I like how logical CBT is and from my experience, even the most skeptical of us, come to like this approach. In addition to CBT, I also draw upon concepts from the 'third wave' of CBT such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). These modern therapies make use of mindfulness techniques to teach us new ways of interacting with our thoughts and emotions.
Our brains are complex machines, and consist of a number of areas which govern logical thinking, emotions and bodily sensations and the nervous system. Many standard talking therapies have historically overemphasised the importance of cognition (thoughts) and ignored the parts of the brain responsible for emotion, memories and our threat responses. For this reason, where appropriate, I enhance CBT with the use of other evidence-based methods, such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and a range of techniques from somatic psychology.
A BIT ABOUT ME
My name is Ania Halls and I am a fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and EMDR Practitioner in York. I offer confidential therapy for adults experiencing depression, trauma and anxiety disorders, based on the latest research in the field. My consultation room is based in Holgate in York, with easy access by car and public transport.
